Red Carpet Fashion: Golden Globes 2013

Ahhh the sweet smell of Awards season! I just love this time of year! Last night's Golden Globes were no disappointment in terms of Red Carpet Fashion.. I had trouble narrowing down this list which is why it's actually larger than usual. So I'll try to keep my descriptions brief and let the gorgeous gowns speak for themselves! Let's get started shall we...

The minute Kate Hudson popped up on the screen talking to Ryan Seacrest - I literally died. This striking black Alexander McQueen gown was a step away from the golden girl's usual Red Carpet wear of glittering gowns. She told Seacrest that "it was between this and another dress that weighed 500 pounds.. I went for comfort" And even though I don't know what the other one looked like, she definitely picked the right choice! My only wish is that she would have worn her hair back - maybe in a low bun - to show off the embellishment around the collar. But in typical Kate fashion, she donned fuss-free locks, heavy black eyeliner and her sparkling larger than life engagement ring. Love!

Kerry Washington is drop-dead gorgeous so she usually shines no matter what she's wearing. However this risky sheer Miu Miu dress was an absolute favorite me. The feather shaped embroidery is TDF and that blush color just pops against her skin tone. I love that it's sheer without being "scandal"-ous (sorry I couldn't help myself) Personally, I enjoy a fab blowout so her stick straight locks don't bother me though some thought it wasn't formal enough. Oh and ladies, take note of the length of the dress paired with her pointy toe pumps - pure perfection!!

Ummmm.. can I just morph into Emily Blunt right now? That body! Damn... makes me want to do 500 crunches this very minute. She donned a gilded Michael Kors cutout gown that made my jaw hit the floor. I love that she swept her hair off her shoulders and into a bun - between the hair, makeup and dress it's the perfect amount of sexy elegance. But in all seriousness, can we take a moment to appreciate just how freaking beautiful this woman {and her jewels} are!

I'm not only obsessed with this whole look but her statement making diamond, ruby & pink sapphire Lorraine Schwartz jewels too!

These next two are probably a bit more controversial, but let's get real - when have I have ever done "normal"? Nicole Richie upped her "Style Icon" role when she stepped out in this powder blue beaded Naeem Khan number. I'm a huge fan of long sleeves so even though it's more demure, with her waves and icy makeup I think she's channeling "old Hollywood" Plus she chose a handbag and jewelry from her House of Harlow line - I so appreciate celebs who actually wear whatever their designing!! Bravo Nic!

Are you on the Downton Abbey bandwagon? No? Well get on it ASAP. Aside from the beautiful scenery and luxurious costumes, it's filled with drama week-after-week. Lady Mary, or Michelle Dockery as she's known in the real world, took a fashion risk with this gold and white British design by Alexandre Vauthier. Sure it's a bit different, but I kind of love it and we know I can't resist a strong shoulder. With all the embellishments, she kept the rest easy with golden accessories, emerald jewels and possibly channeling a bit of her character with a smoldering look.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this might have been one of Hayden Panettiere's best red carpet looks to date. The Nashville actress & nominee was so excited to be there and it truly showed through her mega-watt smile. Hayden's blush Roberto Cavalli was a perfect fit giving her body an amazing shape. Easy going hair, delecate accessories and that bright pink clutch (which is seriously calling my name) were the icing on the cake!

Okay - I know what you're thinking. This is safe. This is boring. Yes & Yes. But can you really deny the fact that Anne Hathway rocked the hell out of this sparkling white Chanel column gown? I think not.. Her acceptance speech was a little over the top but her simple red carpet look really stunned. Plus, her cute pixie is growing out and I love the way she's been styling it lately. It will be interesting to see how it looks come the Academy Awards!

It's time for honorable mentions!

These three ladies were all stunningly gorgeous, but something about their looks didn't quite hit it out of the park for me. Amy Adams shimmered in what she called "ballet pink" Marchesa. while she definitely looks amazing, I feel like she looks much better in color. I would have loved to have seen her in a bolder choice although this is very pretty!

If you dial Tom Ford directly and ask him to design a custom gown for you, then yeah, I'd expect you to be on the Best Dressed List. Julianne Moore did just that in this on-trend black and white column gown made specifically for her. I love the fit & the jewels. It's perfect Julianne Moore - right?

Jessica Alba is another put-me-in-almost-anything-and-I'll-look-fabulous star. Her coral Oscar De La Renta gown was the bright pop of color this red carpet truly needed! And it showed off a sun kissed tan from her recent Cabo vacation. Plus, can we discuss the $5.8 million dollars of Harry Winston diamonds around her neck?! My only complaint is the slight sheen of the material and I'm not in love with the Roger Vivier clutch but appreciate the playfulness of it!

So tell me loves - who did you love? Did I leave anyone off the list? Do you agree with my picks? I want to know!! Happy Monday everyone!! Oh and thanks to everyone who followed along with my twitter Red Carpet updates! I had fun chatting with you guys! :)
