How Do You Say Goodbye?

How do you say goodbye to a friend?

How do you say goodbye to someone who always has a kiss and a hug for you?

Who always wants to cuddle with you?

Who can make you laugh endlessly with just a funny face?

How do you say goodbye to someone who wears anything you put on him?

Who supports your dreams no matter what they are?

How do you say goodbye to someone who loves the same things you do?

Who is always up for a game of hide and seek?

And who loves all creatures great & small

How to say goodbye to someone in your family?

It's been almost a week and I can't answer these questions - my heart aches when I realize I can't go give him a squeeze or scratch his head. But knowing that Jack is no longer sick or in pain makes it slightly easier to accept he's not here anymore. For the past week we've been trading stories and sharing our favorite moments about him. I've had my fair share of crying and laughing... and then more crying. I know that we'll invite another furry friend into our home again at some point, but no one will be able to replace our little Jacky. We will miss him every single day! Thanks for 16 years (16 for Bill, 6.5 for me) of friendship & love! Many x's & o's!

  1. My heart breaks you!! We had to put our cat down a few months ago after having her for 12 years. We also have a Jack Russell who looks very similar to your Jack. I know it's hard and I still cry. It doesn't get better but it does get easier.

  2. I am so sorry for your lose. We lost our lab Maverick 2 year ago and it was so hard. Especially when we came home and he wasn't there wagging his tail, super excited to see us. It does get easier though :) we now have 2 more dogs and we now laugh about all the silly things Mav used to do. I do still get sad now and then, especially when I hear about others losings their dogs usually brings instant tears. There's no love like puppy love. My thoughts are with Nikki, I hope you fell better soon :)

  3. It is so hard to lose a pet, especially one so great. I'm thinking of you and hoping you can find comfort. At least now he is running & playing happily at the rainbow bridge. After my parent's two elderly dogs passed away we found the rainbow bridge poem and while it makes me cry everytime I love it... So that this comment isn't super long, it's at the bottom of this post: http://treyandchristy.blogspot.com/2011/12/until-we-meet-again-at-rainbow-bridge.html

  4. You poor thing! My parents lost both of their bulldogs this summer and I know how much it hurts at the most random times. I'm so sorry you have to go through it! My big guy is my first ever dog that's really "mine" (I got him just before I moved away to school) and I cried like a baby for days last year when he had a tumor and they thought it was inoperable. I know for a fact I'll be a wreck when his time actually comes! Jack looks like he was a real character. What a sweetie.

  7. 16 years is a long time, and it sounds like he had such a wonderful life with a momma who loves him very, very much. This brought tears to my eyes - I'm sitting at my desk bawling like a baby. I have been in your position and I can understand that pain. Just know that he is still with you, and he always will be. He'll be in your heart, but I truly believe that our souls outlive our bodies, and when we are so emotionally connected - to a human OR a pet - that soul will always watch over you. All my best. xoxo

  8. Hello,
I am really so very sorry for loosing your pet.
I visit your blog from time to time and I enjoy your posts. It also keeps me current with what’s in style.
Recently I was doing some SEO work for our site ( www.fiorehosiery.com ) and I was wondering if you would be interested to exchange Alexa reviews. It might help with ranking.

  11. This almost made me cry. It was only about a month or so ago that I had to put my cat to sleep and I'm still devastated, I miss her so much.

  13. That made me cry. I am moving and leaving my dog with a family member. He will be the hardest one to leave behind because I cant explain to him where i am going and why.
