Gone Palm Springsing

We're off to spend Labor Day at our home away from home, Palm Springs! I've been feverishly packing, shopping and prepping for my trip to NYC. Okay, it's all I've been thinking talking about for the past 3 weeks. So this weekend will serve as a much needed break before I jump feet first into conferences, meetings, dinners, shows, etc..!

I wanted to share a few photos of the place we always stay during our PS excursions. Dana and Steve's home was showcased in an issue of California Home Design magazine not too long ago. They have amazing taste in everything (decor, clothes, food - you name it) and yes, it's always this clean. I'm so grateful that they always greet us with open arms & margaritas. Now you see why we can't get enough of the desert? Hope you have a GREAT 3 day weekend!!

Outfit Post: Bright Color Block

I've been wearing these Blu Bijoux beaded bracelets nonstop. They will be seen in many upcoming posts!

Dress: Express (olddddd)
Shoes: Enzo Angiolini (also olddddd)
Wallet: Sundae Sky (on major sale here)
Beaded Bracelets: Blu Bijoux c/o Max & Chloe (Skull, Ball)
Neon Chain Bracelet: The Stylist LA
Lips: Revlon "Wild Orchid" // Nails: Sinful Colors "Neon Melon"

This outfit is special. Okay, not really the outfit per se, but the pieces themselves. I've had this tunic dress for a long time, dare I say, it was actually my 21st birthday dress. The shoes - my rehearsal dinner shoes! Having not worn either item in a very long time, I was excited to shop my closet and pair them together.

I was challenged by Ma Nouvelle Mode to color block and instead of doing the usual top/bottom, I went with a dress/accessory color block. Sure it's bright, but I am loving bold colors right now (who am I kidding - I love them all the time!) Plus, I want to take full advantage before we head into fall!

P.S. isn't this the prettiest street? It's probably one of Bill's favorites - doesn't it look like the palm trees go on for forever?

I also really love this wallet clutch, even if it doesn't hold much more than basic accessories. Exhibit A:

ID, Bank Card, Business Cards, Cash, Phone, and Lipstick

Sometimes, it's fun to rummage through what you've got and re-discover some once lost items. Have you shopped your closet recently? If so, what did you find? Tell me! I love wardrobe inspiration :) Happy Thursday!

Look of the Day: Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace

Kate Hudson Venice Film Festival 2012
Kate Hudson attends the opening ceremony of the 2012 Venice Film Festival

Golden Goddess Alert!! Kate Hudson was positively glowing while attending the premiere of her movie The Reluctant Fundamentalist during the opening ceremony for the Venice Film Festival. Glittering in a gilded gold gown designed by Atelier Versace, the actress knocked it way out of the park. The unique neckline is super modern while the sheer peek-a-boo panels add a playful touch. I love that she chose something so incredibly elegant while staying true to her edgy style. Complete showstopper.

Kate continued her love affair with metallic tones by accessorizing with a gold Edie Parker clutch and champagne Versace heels. Pure perfection. Plus, her makeup is straight up flawless and the back of the dress... well I'll just let that speak for itself.

Outfit Post: All Mixed Up

Leopard Booties: Charlotte Russe (similar style here and LOVE these)
Skirt: Zara (on sale)
Top: Thrifted
Necklace: Forever 21 (very similar style here)
Nails: Sinful Colors "Neon Melon"

I love experimenting with my wardrobe. I definitely like to take risks and try new options - why be boring?? I've been wanting to try mixing patterns for a while but had yet to really dive in (I did try florals and leopard together on a smaller scale here) My first choice was to test the waters with stripes, but so far I can't find a striped top I love (that and a denim chambray have been so challenging for me..) So I thought why not try it with shoes?

I've had these leopard booties for a while and I wear them with TONS of pieces in my closet. Jeans, Skirts, Shorts - they're a fab go-to when you need a dash of playfulness. The watercolor print skirt isn't too over powering which makes it a perfect complement with the leopard print. I kept the rest of it simple with a slightly sparkly silver sweater and a whimsical elephant statement necklace.

Tell me - have you mixed prints yet? What's been your favorite? I need some inspiration! Happy Monday!

Help!: Advice for IFBCON, LuckyFABB, NYFW & FNO!

Calling all Fashion Bloggers!!! Today, I'm reaching out to all you experienced ladies out there - I need your help! As I mentioned before, I'm headed to New York the week after next. I'll be attending 2 blogging conferences {IFBCON & LuckyFABB}, Fashion's Night Out & Fashion Week! I'm so excited I could practically burst.

But I've got a million questions floating around in my head. Yes, of course the ever present "What do I Wear?" question... but so much more than that! I'm hoping some of you NYFW/LuckyFABB/IFBCON/ veterans out there can help a sister out! It won't be my first time in NYC so none of those touristy questions.. Here's just a few of the things that have been on my mind lately... {inhale deep breathe...}

  • What's the best way to carry my big DSLR camera? That thing is so big! I don't have a camera bag... Also - do you take it to the conferences? How about the runway shows?

  • What has been the best way, you've found, to attend the runway shows? Does standing outside and waiting work? Making contacts while you're there?

  • How did you determine what breakout sessions to do at the conferences? What breakout sessions have been your favorite? Or not so favorite? I want to maximize my time while attending both.

  • IFBCON & LuckyFABB overlap by a day? Do you have any advice on how to navigate that?

  • I've got business cards - who should I make sure I hand these to? Who should I not hand these out to?

  • I see that lots of bloggers do outfit posts during these times. Do you use your tripod or have friends and fellow bloggers snap the shots?

  • For FNO - did you try to go to as many events as possible or stick to one area of town? Did you have a better time shopping or trying to meet with major fashion players?

  • Is there something you've done or tried before that you wouldn't do again?

  • And lastly... Okay fine... What should I wear?!?

I'm hoping I can get just a few questions out there answered... Let me know in the comments section below if you please! I so appreciate any advice you can share so I can pass it along to other newbies too :) Happy Friday everyone!!!

Sole Society Pick: Oxblood Booties!

Oxblood Color Fall Trend. Oxblood Ankle Booties. Sole Society Helena Bootie.

It's been a while since I've posted about my favorite pick from Sole Society. Since they changed their system from new monthly shoes to new daily shoes, I didn't want to flood your RSS feed. But when I opened my inbox this morning and saw these gorgeous babies I just knew I had to share them with you!

As the seasons change, it's time to start thinking about what pieces you want to add to your closet for the upcoming months. The newest must have shade for fall and winter is a gorgeous oxblood red color. Enter the Sole Society Helena Bootie. With it's low cut side, suede detail and 4" heel, this ankle boot is the perfect shoe to pick up for cooler temps. Pair it with printed cropped pants, miniskirts & tights or skinny jeans & a leather jacket. I promise you'll get TONS of wear out of them and you won't regret it.

These are $69 which is a bit higher than the usual $49 price - but rumour has it that coupon code "LGN15" will get you $15 off your 1st SS purchase. Plus shipping & returns are free! So if you haven't plunged yet - now is the time! Oh and if you're not sure about the oxblood color (though I'm telling you - do it!) Helena also comes in Black Leather

Outfit Post: DIY Cutoff Shorts

Top: Aaron Ashe via The Stylist LA
Shorts: DIY Denim Cutoffs
Neon Satchel: Target (last seen here)
Shoes: Sole Society "Heather" Booties
Belt: H&M ; Sunnies: Vintage (similar here)
Lips: Revlon "Fuchsia Fusion"

After posting about ways to wear denim cutoffs, I was really inspired to get started on my DIY projects I vlogged about a few weeks ago. So I ran out to Goodwill and picked up a pair of denim jeans 2 sizes bigger than my normal.

I must admit that this didn't go as smoothly as I originally anticipated - these were supposed to be longer boyfriend shorts. But after cutting and distressing, I wasn't in love with the fit so I just cut them shorter to make shorts. I haven't washed them yet so they'll get more frayed (which is what I actually like) but I think that since they're a bit bigger, I could go even shorter... what do you think? I'm still on the fence on whether I heart them or not..

We met our friends for Happy Hour and ended up walking around downtown Santa Monica well into the evening. So I was thrilled my outfit was so easy going. A pop of neon, twisted bun & pink lips were perfect accessories with these shorts. I think I'm definitely going shorter.... Happy Monday everyone!! xoxo

Pinspiration: Weekend Cutoffs

Since leaving my regular 9-5, Saturdays have turned into quite the workday for me. (Bill has days off during the week so we use those as our weekend days) For everyone else out there, Saturdays are a time to let loose with your wardrobe. Insert my favorite - denim cutoff shorts. I gathered up some of my favorite ways to wear them {via my Pinterest} and thought I'd share these outfit ideas with you. Let's take a look shall we?

An oversized sweater makes your cutoffs comfy and cozy

Try a printed top and structured wedges for your next summertime party

A white button up with colored cutoffs is a breath of fresh air!

Add boho chic accessories like ankle booties, a fringe bag & larger than life pendant

Dress up your shorts with a bold blazer or printed jacket. Neutral flats keep it ladylike

Sparkle in the daytime with a sequin top and boyfriend shorts

Take it easy and pair your majorly distressed shorts with a burnout tee, tribal clutch & chic sunnies

What's your favorite way to wear cutoffs?
